The Power of Easter.

As most of you know, I grew up in a traditional Southern Baptist home. It is something that I am thankful for and to be honest, something I appreciate even more as I get older. Continue reading “The Power of Easter.”

A different attitude toward worship.

1 Thess. 4:9-12.

Have you ever heard someone say, “all your church does is worship and study the Bible?”

From their perspective, a church that is not doing some activity every day isn’t doing what it’s supposed to do and is failing in some way. Continue reading “A different attitude toward worship.”

Christians and Discipleship.

Is there a difference between being a disciple of Jesus and being a Christian? That’s an interesting and important question. It’s important because it’s easy to misunderstand discipleship and think it is something different from being Christian. Continue reading “Christians and Discipleship.”

Risk: Oversold and Underplayed.

I was reading in a daily devotional book[i] and I wanted to share the main thoughts with you. It was titled: Risk: Oversold and Underplayed. It challenges a comfortable faith that isn’t willing to risk too much for Jesus. Continue reading “Risk: Oversold and Underplayed.”

God’s Overcomers.

I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:14, ESV) Continue reading “God’s Overcomers.”

As you go evangelism.

I really believe this was done with the best of intentions. I also believe that it used to work. Throughout the 1960s through the 1980s Christians would meet in church buildings around 7 P.M. on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays. They would be given a list of names and then, in groups of two or three, they would dutifully go to those homes one by one. Continue reading “As you go evangelism.”

Drawing near to God

In James 4:8, is one of my favorite passages in Scripture. He tells us to draw near to God and He will draw near to us. This passage has been a guiding principle in my life for years. Yet, at times, it seems more difficult than at other times. Continue reading “Drawing near to God”

Experiencing Spiritual Victory.

How many of us want to experience spiritual victory? How many of us want to have happy and joyful lives? Continue reading “Experiencing Spiritual Victory.”

Faith should produce action.

The supreme purpose of the Christian religion is to make men and women who are like Jesus so that they will act like Jesus. Continue reading “Faith should produce action.”

Interferences and being Christian.

Today, I want to talk to you about interference. Does Christianity interfere with your life? Does it get in the way and keep you from doing certain things you would like to do? Is faith something that gets in your way, prevents you from making that decision of commitment? Continue reading “Interferences and being Christian.”

Doing good to all men (Galatians 6:10).

First, I want to say that I appreciate the effort by the church to provide a meal for the family of Robert Davis. With just a little notice, several came together and hosted a family who was mourning the loss of a loved one. Continue reading “Doing good to all men (Galatians 6:10).”

5 Dangers of Missing Church.

I read an article on the website churchleaders.com(1) with this same title and I wanted to share some of the main ideas with you. You can follow the link below for the full article. Continue reading “5 Dangers of Missing Church.”

The power of new opportunities.

I am grateful for this New Year! I say that because sometimes we take for granted the blessing that everything in life starts over at some point. Every day comes to an end and with it comes a new day. Continue reading “The power of new opportunities.”

A Message of Hope and Courage.

We are quickly approaching the end of another year. Yes, you heard that right. A new year is just around the corner. Continue reading “A Message of Hope and Courage.”

What is the gospel: the true message of Jesus and the season.

Being a few days before Christmas, I want us to reflect on the true meaning of the word “Gospel.” Some might be wondering what I am thinking but bear with me and hopefully, it will make sense. Continue reading “What is the gospel: the true message of Jesus and the season.”
