Knowing About God vs. Truly Knowing Him

Read: Ecclesiastes 9-12

Today’s Passage: Ecclesiastes 11:5

Often, we believe that what we know about life, the world, and even God is complete and absolute. Some even try to explain the nature of God as if they have Him all figured out. Even worse, some try to dictate what God will and will not do based simply on what makes sense to them. The truth is, we do not know God or the mind of God apart from He tells us. Scripture teaches that we cannot fully comprehend God or His ways. As Isaiah 55:8 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.”

God sees all.

Read: Job 34-37.

Today’s Passage: Job 34:21-22.

Elihu’s speech has continued for several chapters. He feels like he has insights they need to hear, and indeed, Elihu reveals some powerful and important truths for us. One of the important ones comes from today’s passage.

“For his eyes are on the ways of a man, and he sees all his steps. There is no gloom or deep darkness where evildoers may hide themselves.”

(Job 34:21-22).

Hosea: God wants something more.

The book of Hosea is the first of the 12 minor prophets and was likely written during the 8th century B.C. just before the Assyrian invades. His work and prophecies focused almost entirely on the northern kingdom of Israel during its final years of existence. His ministry lasted some 34 years and it is noteworthy that Hosea is the only prophet to live and preach solely to the Northern Kingdom. Continue reading “Hosea: God wants something more.”
