A different attitude toward worship.

1 Thess. 4:9-12.

Have you ever heard someone say, “all your church does is worship and study the Bible?”

From their perspective, a church that is not doing some activity every day isn’t doing what it’s supposed to do and is failing in some way. Continue reading “A different attitude toward worship.”

Christians and Discipleship.

Is there a difference between being a disciple of Jesus and being a Christian? That’s an interesting and important question. It’s important because it’s easy to misunderstand discipleship and think it is something different from being Christian. Continue reading “Christians and Discipleship.”

Risk: Oversold and Underplayed.

I was reading in a daily devotional book[i] and I wanted to share the main thoughts with you. It was titled: Risk: Oversold and Underplayed. It challenges a comfortable faith that isn’t willing to risk too much for Jesus. Continue reading “Risk: Oversold and Underplayed.”

God’s Overcomers.

I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:14, ESV) Continue reading “God’s Overcomers.”

As you go evangelism.

I really believe this was done with the best of intentions. I also believe that it used to work. Throughout the 1960s through the 1980s Christians would meet in church buildings around 7 P.M. on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays. They would be given a list of names and then, in groups of two or three, they would dutifully go to those homes one by one. Continue reading “As you go evangelism.”

Faith should produce action.

The supreme purpose of the Christian religion is to make men and women who are like Jesus so that they will act like Jesus. Continue reading “Faith should produce action.”

What is the gospel: the true message of Jesus and the season.

Being a few days before Christmas, I want us to reflect on the true meaning of the word “Gospel.” Some might be wondering what I am thinking but bear with me and hopefully, it will make sense. Continue reading “What is the gospel: the true message of Jesus and the season.”

What a Friend!

In the mid-1800’s, a young Irishman named Joseph Scriven was engaged to be married to a young lady. On the day before the wedding, he rode out to meet his fiancé at a river. Upon arriving, he was devastated to learn that her horse had been startled and thrown her into the water, where she drowned. He said later, “The bottom of my world seemed to disappear.” He turned to God and leaned upon him for strength. Continue reading “What a Friend!”

The book of Micah

I must say that I have enjoyed the challenge of writing an article about each book of the Hebrew Bible.  It has forced me to seriously read each book and digest it so that I can share the bigger points.   Continue reading “The book of Micah”

Introduction to the Prophets.

Up to this point, we have looked at each book of the Bible with the hopes of creating a better understanding of each book. My goal is to create a curiosity within each person that would drive them to read these wonderful books even more. Sometimes these articles have acted as introductions and at other times they were more about helping us to better understand the message of the book. Continue reading “Introduction to the Prophets.”

The Baptism of Jesus

The baptism of Jesus is an important subject we need to study. As our example in all things (1 Peter 2:21) Jesus’ baptism should set the precedent for our attitude toward baptism. Continue reading “The Baptism of Jesus”

‘It Is Written …’

‘It Is Written …’

By Ron Adams

In Matthew 4:1-10 we have the account of Jesus being tempted by the devil. Continue reading “‘It Is Written …’”

What is the point of Easter?

As I began preparing for this week’s bulletin article, I quickly realized that I have never written an article about Easter. I’m not sure why I have never broached the subject. Perhaps, it’s about the traditional view of the church and the fact that most still participate. Continue reading “What is the point of Easter?”

Just like us.

One of the most intriguing verses for me is Luke 2:52. In this verse, I see Jesus, who is God in the flesh, presented as a real person. He grew in height, in wisdom, and in favor with God and man. For all the power and glory that was His, in the flesh He was just like us. Don’t misunderstand now, I know that Jesus is much more than a mere man, He is God with us, He is the Word that was made flesh and dwelt among us. But, in the flesh, He was made just like us. Continue reading “Just like us.”

Finding Joy in Christmas.

Have you ever found yourself just worn out leading up to Christmas? Often, we find ourselves in a bad place, spiritually and emotionally, near the end of December. Sometimes it’s because our schedules are crazy, and we don’t have free time to even breath. I hope and pray that you are not having a Christmas season like this, but I know that I have felt that far too often. Continue reading “Finding Joy in Christmas.”
