Death and Hades give up their dead

Revelation 20:13–15 describes the dead standing before God, judgment according to their deeds, and the book of life. Jeff connects this with the class’s earlier discussion of the books and the final defeat of death.

Being with Christ and awaiting resurrection

The class discusses Paradise and torment using the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16. Philippians 1:21–24 expresses Paul’s desire to depart and be with Christ. Jeff explains his understanding of the body awaiting resurrection and the believer being with the Lord.

Accountability and hope in Christ

Romans 2:6 raises the question of judgment according to works. Jeff brings Romans 8:1 into the discussion and distinguishes salvation through Christ from accountability for how believers use what God has given them. He discusses rewards while acknowledging that Scripture does not explain every detail of how those rewards work.

Examine the faith you are living

Amos 5:18–20 challenges people who expect the day of the Lord to be favorable while merely going through religious motions. The class considers whether belief is expressed in obedience and daily life. Jeff encourages listeners to examine their faith without confusing salvation with earning God’s acceptance.

Reflection and application

How does the hope of being with Christ shape the way you face death? What has God entrusted to you, and how are you using it? Consider whether your daily actions reflect the faith you confess.
