Class Summary
This class continues the study of Christ’s return from Matthew 24:44-46. After considering the need to watch and be ready, the discussion turns to Jesus’ picture of the faithful and wise servant. Readiness is not panic, date-setting, or standing still while we wait. It is ordinary faithfulness: doing the work the Lord has entrusted to us.
Big Idea
A faithful and wise servant is ready for the Lord because he is already doing the Lord’s work on an ordinary day.
Main Ideas
- Jesus calls His people to be ready because the Son of Man comes at an hour we do not expect.
- The faithful servant is not shown waiting in fear, but serving responsibly in the master’s household.
- Readiness is built over time, like oil in the lamp, not crammed together at the last minute.
- Faithfulness often looks simple: serving, encouraging, calling, helping, teaching, and making relationships right.
- Love for the Lord and love for others move the servant to act instead of merely saying the right words.
