As we step into a new year, it is natural to reflect on where we have been and where we are going. For some, the past year may have been filled with blessings and joy. For others, it might have been marked by challenges and hardships. Whatever the case, we can all agree that each year brings its share of uncertainties. That is why we need faith and courage as we enter 2025.
The Bible is rich with reminders that God is with us, no matter what we face. One of my favorite passages is Joshua 1:9, where God says to Joshua, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This encouragement was given to Joshua as he prepared to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land—a journey full of unknowns and difficulties. Yet, God’s presence was the foundation of Joshua’s courage.
As we face a new year, we too are stepping into the unknown. We do not know what blessings or trials lie ahead, but we can trust that the Lord will walk with us through every moment. This trust is the essence of faith. Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Faith allows us to move forward even when we cannot see the full picture, trusting that God’s plan is good.
Courage is not the absence of fear but the decision to act in the face of it. It is choosing to stand firm in faith even when life feels uncertain. This year, let us remember that our courage does not come from our own strength but from the Lord. As Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
As a church family, let us encourage one another to live by faith and walk in courage. Let us be people who pray earnestly, serve joyfully, and love deeply. Whatever this year brings, let us face it with hearts anchored in Christ. And may 2025 be a year where we grow closer to Him and shine His light brightly in our community.
“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord” (Psalm 31:24). Amen.
