Read: Job 34-37.
Today’s Passage: Job 34:21-22.
Elihu’s speech has continued for several chapters. He feels like he has insights they need to hear, and indeed, Elihu reveals some powerful and important truths for us. One of the important ones comes from today’s passage.
“For his eyes are on the ways of a man, and he sees all his steps. There is no gloom or deep darkness where evildoers may hide themselves.”
(Job 34:21-22).
God sees all things, and nothing can alter or hide our actions from Him. This foundational idea is central to our relationship with our Father in heaven. It’s both a simple and profound concept to comprehend.
Our Relationship with God
God created us (Col. 1:6), a view held by most Christian groups. Only a few disagree, often with specific agendas or alternate perspectives. Atheists, agnostics, and evolutionists have their own motivations to question or reject it.
God is the builder of all things (Heb. 3:4) and that includes us. No one understands our struggles and potential more than the one who created us. For example, if you built a house today and encountered a problem, you turn to the builder for answers and solutions. If you bought a new car and it began to have major engine problems, you would immediately take it back to the dealer, expecting them to fix it.
God knows us best.
Nothing can be concealed from Him – He sees all things, even those things we hide from the world. He understands us at both our best and worst. Just as Adam and Eve could not hide from God (Gen. 3:8-9) neither can we. If this is true – and it is – why do, we try to hide? At the core of God’s nature is a love for His creation. He wants to be near us, to have an uninterrupted relationship, and to forgive us even when we sin against Him (Eph. 1:7; 1 Peter 3:12).
