June 14, 2024: read Esther 8-10.

Today’s Passage: Esther 8:2.

Reflecting on how God used Mordecai, it is evident that the course of his life placed him in situations where he could significantly impact the people of God. God chose a man who would make good choices, demonstrating His divine plan through Mordecai’s actions and decisions.

The first choice in Mordecai’s story was his decision to care for his orphaned cousin, raising her as his daughter. This act of kindness and responsibility was not just a personal decision but a pivotal moment in the unfolding of God’s plan. By taking Esther into his home, Mordecai unknowingly set the stage for a series of events that would ultimately save their people. This decision changed his life forever. Mordecai’s early choice to care for Esther shows how individual acts of kindness and responsibility can have far-reaching consequences (Prov. 3:3-4).

The next choice would change Esther’s life forever. It came when the king, having deposed Vashti, needed a new queen. There was a call for young women to be brought to the palace, and among them was Esther. With God’s blessings, she was chosen as the new queen. Esther’s selection as queen was not merely a result of her physical beauty but a part of God’s plan to place her in a position where she could save her people (1 Peter 3:9).

The next changed the life of the King. This choice occurred when Mordecai learned of a plot by two of the king’s men to kill the King. His choice to act upon this information and warn the king through Esther. By intervening, Mordecai not only saved the king’s life but also demonstrated a profound sense of loyalty (Matt. 5:4).

The final choice changed the life of an entire nation. It was Mordecai’s plea to Esther to stop Haman’s plan. This moment of courage and faith is a testament to the power of standing up for what is right, even in the face of great danger (Luke 6:23). Esther risked her life to speak with the king, revealing the plot against her people. As a result, Haman was hung on the gallows built for Mordecai. Mordecai’s actions were rewarded, leading to the salvation of the Jews.

These thoughts serve as a reminder that our greatest reward will not be in this life but in the next. While we may face challenges and trials, it is through faith and righteousness that we find true fulfillment and eternal reward. Esthers story is a powerful example of how a person’s faithfulness and courage can change the course of history, demonstrating that God’s plans are always perfect.
